In the style of a typical European city, the capital of Iceland is proud of its culture and history but is also progressing with a forward thinking attitude. Fabulous modern style restaurants are interspersed by cosy traditional cafes, while museums and galleries abound – some are world famous. A great music scene, a lively nightlife and stylish clubs and bars attract the young and hip crowd, while those here to simply relax will love the geothermal pools that offer the perfect venue for some therapeutic "me time".

The museum with a very unusual name is famous for its excellent archeological exhibitions. Indeed, its name comes from the date that the items it houses are attributed to. Inside you can visit exhibitions that include some of the oldest relics of human habitation in the city. At the centre of the exhibition on farming life during the Viking Age in the city is a Viking longhouse, and there is plenty more to see as well. For those interested in local history this is definitely the place to go. The museum opens from 10-5pm every day.

For those with a head for heights, a visit to this tower that soars to over 240ft is well worth the effort. The tallest building in the country, the tower offers the best views over the city. There is a lift that takes you up to the bell tower where there are three bells - one representing Hallgrímur, one his wife and one his daughter.

You can’t visit Reykjavik without experiencing one of the famous geothermal pools. For the locals they are a way of life, but for tourists they are a fascinating natural attraction not to be missed. If you want to relax, kick back and treat yourself in true Icelandic style, make a beeline to one of the city’s seven pools. You can spend time in the hot tubs, relax in the steam baths, or just laze in the therapeutic waters. Most pools open early, at around 8am, and stay open until the evening, but for exact times you should check with your hotel staff.

These three options are just the tip of the iceberg with regards the attractions in Reykjavik but they are a good starting point. If you spend any time in the city while on Northern Lights holidays you’re bound to discover many more.Canvas Welding Machine Manufacturers
